Nightingale Hospital Birmingham was the second of the temporary NHS Nightingale Hospitals set up by NHS England in 2020.
The hospital was constructed inside the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Solihull for £66.4 million, making this facility the most expensive of the Nightingale temporary hospitals. MG Scaffolding executed this time-sensitive project by providing a bridged support scaffold across one of the main roads within the NEC to support the liquid oxygen supply into the building.
In addition, we provided sterile shrink-wrap protection screens in between the different halls in the NEC. On-site, this translated into designing the scaffolding in 12 hours and erecting it within 48 hours, including compiling comprehensive risk assessments, method statements, commissioning our design engineer to create suitable designs and calculations and commencing the plan of work. Our team worked incessantly, completing phase one in just 13 days, making the facility fully operational on 16 April 2020.
